Fight Hunger Hormones with Appetite Suppressing Foods

It has been determined that it is actually our hunger hormones Ghrelin and Leptin that are responsible for our food cravings. Hormones are the messengers of the body and all play different roles. There are some that influence how fast fat is stored in our body, what we want and others determine how we feel.

Ghrelin is one of our hormones and is produced when our stomach is empty. Its main purpose is to make us feel hunger and feed our body fuel. The only way to satisfy the ghrelin hormone is to keep your stomach full of healthy foods, which in turn, suppresses your appetite.

Here are a few appetite suppressing foods to keep the tummy grumblings away and prevent food cravings.

Plenty of Healthy Fats

I find that eating a diet high in healthy fats that promotes ketosis is the best way to reduce food cravings. Eating enough fat as part of a ketosis/paleo/low carb diet is my top tip for staying in ketosis. It is being in ketosis that in my experience that reduces the cravings and feeling of hunger. I aim to have 70 – 80% of my calories as fat per day.

Recently I spent 3 weeks in Portugal on holiday, not sure why!!!! but I always allow myself a free rein to eat and drink whatever I want when on holiday. The interesting thing is the way eating carbs makes you hungry, I would end up eating 3 large meals a day. Also in-between meals I would be thinking about food and planning the next feast becoming a bit obsessive. Compared to staying in ketosis at home when I can easily skip lunch and hardly ever have food cravings. I have been back from holiday for a week now and back in ketosis and it is comfortable place to be.

Eat More Fat? Amazing Results

Here is a very interesting presentation on the benefits of eating more fat.

 Green Tea

Green tea is known for its weight loss benefits. There is an exceptional phytonutrient called epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG found in Green Tea. This substance increases another hormone which is responsible for creating the feeling of fullness, so your ghrelin is quietened. If we feel full between meals it is a huge part of our weight loss efforts and fighting potential weight gain. Another benefit is that EGCG activates thermogenesis, which stimulates your metabolism, so that your cells are burning fat and energy.

Additional Appetite Suppressing Foods
